Mons Royale is a Merino wool, underwear and first layer brand designed for the ‘riders’ lifestyle, an idea that sprouted (only) from the mind of an action sports athlete – pro skier, Hamish Acland.
Many merino brands pop up every year – all follow miles behind the merino success story, Ice Breaker. By focusing on the action-sports market, Mons Royale is able to take a completely new approach to these other brands. By throwing in wild colours, graphics … and sex, Mons Royale has managed to change the perspective on an otherwise conventional clothing category.
I was contracted to design and develop Mons Royale’s brand identity, marketing, print and garment graphics that would directly target action-sports ‘life-stylers’ and have the ability to gain international recognition as a fun, functional and innovative merino brand from New Zealand.
Mons Royale is now distributed throughout, Australia, Japan, Norway, Sweden, ‘The Benelux’, France, Austria, Switzerland, Germany and Canada.

The design brief was to create an iconic label that could transcend across all of their wines. Central Otago, is an extreme climate which experiences a hot and dry climate in the summer and a freezing, snowy winter.
The identity of this label is rich and gritty, blistered and burnt - reflecting the suffering seasons of the Central Otago region. The water colour also pays tribute to the infamous 'painted' area.

BO Boots are handmade sheepskin boots, designed and made in Christchurch, New Zealand. They have been around since 2005. Founder, Ben Acland and wife Sara, had an amazing product that had huge appeal to the few people that knew of BO boots existence.
I was contracted to boost the awareness of the brand, which until now hadn’t really existed.
The re-branding process began by getting to know and understand how and why Ben and Sara’s boot venture began. What inspires them? What their goals are? What makes their boots different?
Originality - the attitude and design philosophy that inspired the brand story.
Both from New Zealand sheep farms, Ben and Sara wanted to reflect the nostalgia they felt from their rural upbringing in combination with their love for urban culture and trends.
The clean, contemporary graphic design combined with nostalgic styled imagery and rustic textures, formed the visual pallet for the BO boots brand.
